Sapporo Dominica (Kyobashi: Soup curry)
Sapporo Dominica
Open 11am-9:30pm (LO; Sat, Sun -8:30) daily.
Sun: Open Sundays

With just a handful of choices, Sapporo Dominica might not have as wide a menu as some of its competitors, and their bowls may not be as vegetable-laden as others, but the kitchen here turns out first-rate soup curries with high-quality, well-prepared ingredients. Chicken, pork, Hamburg steak and vegetable are the options for main ingredient, while the umami-rich soups come in your choice of original bouillon, tomato, pork-bone or soy milk.

The pork soup curry is swimming with appealingly fatty, juicy chunks of stewed pork kakuni and fresh-tasting vegetables. The baby corn is just on the edge of being crunchy, as is the okra, and big rings of lightly sauteed onions maintain some bite. Small garlic chips scattered through the soup liven up the taste buds with concentrated bursts of intense flavor.

You can add extra toppings like cheese or fried fish - again there are just a handful of options - or opt for a green salad on the side. Drinks include fruit juices, mango lassi, beer, wine and cocktails. The dining area is furnished with a few tables to handle groups as well as a seven-seat counter. Curries start at Y1,050.
