Specializing in heirloom-breed chicken from Miyazaki Prefecture in Kyushu, this popular chain izakaya reliably serves up tasty food and delivers good cost performance. The atmosphere is lively without being raucous, tables are comfortably spaced, service is friendly - our only complaint is the lack of a non-smoking section, although the ventilation seems to be pretty good.
The food menu features a good number of regional dishes from Kyushu, starting with the grilled chicken, cooked over charcoal and fairly slightly chewy as is the local style. Mentaiko (spicy cod roe) with tamagoyaki is well balanced and fairly spicy, with a good amount of mentaiko per serving. Other recommendations include the Berkshire-pork gyoza, spicy chicken wings and the tsukune meatballs.
The surprisingly large drinks list includes good selections of both shochu and sake, mohitos and shochu cocktails, highballs and fruit liqueurs. Budget around Y3000-3500 for dinner with drinks.
