Hearty German food and a roster of reasonably priced German-style draft beers are the draw at this popular German chain restaurant. The eight beers on tap are priced at Y650 and Y950 for small and large sizes, and include five of Schmatz's original beers plus brews from Bitburger, Erdinger and Sapporo (Edelpils). You can also opt for a tasting flight of three beers of your choice.

The food menu features interesting sausages, pizzas and risotti, starters like spicy calamari, and German-style salads. Their popular schnitzel is nicely prepared - crunchy in texture and thickly covered in cheese - and the smoked duck otoshi makes a very tasty amuse-bouche.

The main dining area at the back of the restaurant is spacious and smoke-free, with smokers limited to the smaller front room. Budget around Y3000-3500 for dinner with drinks. Schmatz also has branches in Shibuya, Shinjuku, Akasaka, Kichijoji and Kawasaki.
