Suppose you've already decided to eat prime rib at Lawry's, and are committed to at least the 300 gm Lawry's cut for Y3500. For an extra commitment of a mere Y2000, you can either add a lobster tail, or upgrade to the belt-bursting 600gm "Diamond Jim Brady" cut. Which should you choose? Well, it just so happens that - as of very recently - *I* am in a position to compare the two alternatives.

The grilled lobster tail is a little on the small side, but it's damn good. After all, how can you ruin a lobster? They serve it with two dips - melted butter in one ramekin, and a Cajun-type HOT sauce in the other. I liked the spicy stuff, but it's just not right for lobster, which can't really stand up to something so strong. Generally speaking, though, the lobster is an acceptable choice... for a WOMAN! Such persons can even be satisfied with the miniscule 180gm California cut as their meat choice. Feh.

For a MAN, I must continue to recommend the Diamond Jim. Until last night, I wasn't fully aware of the incredible heft of this particular flesh-slab, but I heard the waitress telling the guys at the next table that it comes out to about 600 grams of intestine-blocking fun. Even allowing five ounces for the rib bone, there's still a pound of meat and fat on that baby, so much so that it's difficult to choke the whole thing down your gullet in a single day. By contrast, with the Lawry's cut + lobster combo, I was not only able to finish my main course, I was even able to have dessert. I guess that's OK for some occasions (e.g. the night before a triathlon), but not for normal dining needs.

Bottom line: for the wife, order the CA cut + lobster tail; for the MAN, order the DJB.

Expansively yours,
