Day 7 (later):
Sapporo

Day 7 (later)

After a few
post-lunch beers
Yujin and I
headed back to
the hotel to nap
before heading
out to Izakaya
Furusato. Furu-
sato is very
much a local
izakaya; it's
about a 20-min.
cab ride from
Susukino but
well worth the
effort. Every-
thing on the
menu is great. I
especially rec-
ommend the
grilled tai
(tsugodai) and
the kindara no
kama (grilled
fish head). The
sashimi was
amazingly fresh
and if you feel
like getting
blasted try the
fugu no hiresake
(blowfish sake).

Decided to head
back into Susu-
kino for a quick
nightcap or
three. Genki and
I ended up in a
place called
Harry's Bar.
Though the name
sounds English
it is a typical
Tokyo-style
late-night bar.
Nice lighting
and a very
friendly bar-
tender who even
knew how to make
a "Jack Tar",
although we were
very far from
Yokohama (appar-
ently it origi-
nates in the
bars around the
Yokohama harbor
area). In case
you don't know
what a Jack Tar
is (and I had
know idea until
this, and have
since regretted
finding out), it
is a lethal
combination of
Ronrico or any
other high-proof
rum, Southern
Comfort, and
lime. A danger-
ously drinkable
cocktail which
should be used
with care....
