Day 2 (late)

Arriving in a
city at 2am
after a four-
hour drive is
not the best way
to find a decent
restaurant, but
it does often
yield interest-
ing results. The
small back
streets of Akita
have some amaz-
ing small iza-
kayas and "snack
bars." Yujin
(Babamania's
guitarist) found
this little gem
when he left the
hotel on a res-
taurant recon-
naissance mis-
sion earlier.
Ninkitei is a
great little
place. There is
no menu, so you
have to nego-
tiate how much
you want to
spend with the
extremely
friendly Abe-
san. The food
was a bit too
authentic for my
tastes (ika no
shiokara and
kampachi no
nikogoree), but
the hospitality
of Abe-san more
than made up for
this as he sat
with us at our
table for most
of the evening,
pouring us free
sake and wine.
If you're up for
a bit of an
adventure Ninki-
tei is highly
recommended.
