Craft Beer Market/
Kanda: Beer bar

One thing we like
about this craft-
beer bar chain,
besides the reason-
able prices and
broad beer selec-
tion, is that fact
that each branch has
its own distinctive
food menu. The theme
here at CBM's tenth
branch is lamb, and
the kitchen goes all
out with nearly a
dozen lamb-centered
dishes including
their specialty of
the house - bite-
size grilled lamb
chops for just Y480
apiece.

After your initial
mini-chop it's worth
exploring the rest
of the lamb menu at
your leisure. The
Thai lamb curry
packs a spicy punch,
and the lamb-cilan-
tro gyoza dumplings
are a refreshingly
novel take on this
everyday dish. The
lamb nikomi is mild-
ly flavored but
quite satisfying,
with big chunks of
meat, turnips and
lotus root in a stew
of spiced lentils.
Other tempting
choices include
lamb-mushroom ajil-
lo, lamb-ricotta
omelettes, lamb-
bacon potato salad
and lamb ravioli.

The dining room is
similar to other CBM
branches - loud and
energetic, with most
seating at high
tables and a couple
of counter areas. We
found the stools at
the counter to be
more uncomfortable
than average, but on
the other hand table
seating seems to be
more spacious and
less cramped than at
other downtown
branches. Service is
friendly and effi-
cient. Prices for
the thirty beers on
tap are the same as
at other branches -
US pints are just
Y780 and glasses
Y480, with a Y300
table charge.
