Lamex serves some of
the best Tex-Mex
food in Tokyo, with
flavors very close
to what you find in
southern California.
While the extensive
menu covers the
usual bases - burri-
tos, quesadillas,
fajitas and so on -
it's quite impres-
sive in its breadth.
For example there
are nearly a dozen
burrito variations,
with fillings like
stewed beef tongue,
tequila-marinated
steak and swordfish,
all served with
their homemade "wet
sauce" and available
in both regular and
deep-fried chimi-
changa versions.

Fajitas come with
rather luxurious
fillings like black
tiger shrimp and
black Angus beef
steak. And while
you're waiting for
your main dish to
arrive it's tempting
to sample one or two
of the small tapas-
style starters like
jalapeno poppers,
octopus-oranage
ceviche, beef
tongue-mushroom
ajillo and mini-
quesadillas, all
priced at Y500.

Everything we've had
here has been top-
notch, with well-
marinated, very
flavorful meaty
fillings, fresh-
tasting vegetables
and satisfying por-
tion sizes. The
drinks list is im-
pressive as well -
gorgeous margaritas,
interesting Day of
the Dead Mexican
craft beers, plus a
decent tequila se-
lection.

The dining room has
a lively atmosphere,
with a mix of high
stools and regular-
height chairs, and
service is friendly
and interactive.
Budget around Y3000-
4000 for ample food
and drink at dinner-
time.
