The specialties of
the house at Sasamo-
to are grilled skew-
ers of pork and
beef, with an empha-
sis on organ meats.
They're also known
for their kushi-
nikomi - pork gib-
lets on skewers in a
rich miso-based
stew. You can order
a la carte (there
are around fifteen
different grilled
skewers), or take
the easy approach
with one of the set
menus that feature a
variety of grilled
items plus one small
portion of stew.

Some of the high-
lights here include
both beef and pork
skirt steaks, pork
tongue grilled in
miso, and tender
pork liver. Braised
cabbage served in a
rich, fatty pork
broth was also quite
nice. Note that the
shop doesn't provide
chopsticks, so
you're expected to
eat directly from
the skewer. Don't
plan on sharing.

The tasteful decor
is retro Showa-
style, with tile
floors, old movie
and theater posters
on the walls, and
jazz on the stereo.
Set menus start at
around Y2000.
