to the design-con-
scious Shibuya
Grandbell Hotel,
serves up reasonable
food and drink 24
hours a day, seven
days a week. Cock-
tails, draft beer,
and wines by the
glass start at Y500,
with two or three
daily drink spe-
cials. The "World
Beer" list features
eleven bottles from
various countries -
including the non-
alcoholic Nova Schin
from Brazil.

Food runs from Y300
- Y1000 a plate.
Simple snacks, like
Parma ham (Y600) and
garlic fries (Y500),
work well; more
fanciful items, like
meatloaf smothered
in white gravy with
mushrooms, less so.
And, yes, there are
pies a-plenty avail-
able in the old-
fashioned glass case
by the door.

Based on a modern-
day retro design
concept, the smart,
spare decor has the
feel of a futuristic
diner. The bottom
floor is dominated
by a gleaming metal
and tile covered bar
lined with small
metal stools. Addi-
tional seating is
available upstairs.
