Data
Fairfax is the
eighth venue in the
very successful
Cardenas restaurant
chain, and it shares
many of the qual-
ities that made its
predecessors so
popular - innovative
Pacific Rim cuisine,
convenient late-
night hours, friend-
ly service, and a
large, well-chosen
New World wine list.
The atmosphere,
though, has the feel
of a comfortable
neighborhood bistro,
without the lavish
decor and business-
dinner/first-date
clientele of the
Ebisu/Daikanyama
branches.

The food menu still
promises adventure,
with tastes ranging
from sea urchin and
ikura with green tea
noodles to Louisiana
shrimp. The richly
flavored grilled
venison makes a
dramatic starter,
and the garlicky
Caesar salad with
aged mimolette is
well above average.
The cod in red al-
mond curry is also
very impressive,
with a Thai-style
curry sauce that
nicely balances the
other flavors and
ingredients without
overwhelming them.
The wine list has
several good selec-
tions in the under-
Y6000 category, plus
several varieties by
the glass. Budget
around Y5000-7500
for dinner and
drinks.
