One of the less
strident winter
ales, without
aromatic spices,
but with a
nicely complex
malt flavor.
Though it looks
strong and
heavy, with a
deep reddish
brown color and
a creamy ivory
head, it is
surprisingly
light. It has a
faintly toffee-
like aroma with
a touch of dried
fruit, while the
flavor is a
parade of
complex malt
flavors with
little spikes of
sweetness
balanced out by
good hop
bitterness. The
finish is long
and clean, and
tapers off
nicely leaving a
touch of hop
bitterness
behind. A great
Christmas beer
for those who
have never had
one before.
