Most of the best
beers in the
world are brewed
in Belgium, and
among the best
of those are
ales from
genuine Trappist
breweries. My
candidate for
the best of
these beers is
Westmalle
Tripel. This
hazy yellow beer
with a creamy
white head has a
lusciously
fruity and
complex aroma,
and a flavor
profile that is
initially sweet,
then drops to a
somewhat drier
than would be
expected for
such a heavy and
strong (9%)
beer. The richly
complex malt
sweetness is
balanced
superbly with
the floral hop
bitterness.
Long, lingering
finish that
satisfies. Drink
slightly
chilled.
