LA TRAPPE
QUADRUPEL
Trappist Ale
TheNetherlands
Traditionally,
the strongest
Trappist ales
have been
Tripels, but
this product
attempts to go
one step further
in terms of
alcohol and
body. Although
the "Quadrupel"
designation
should be
disregarded as
mere "hype," the
beer is quite
good and
deserves to be
taken seriously.
It is a hazy red
amber color with
a thick ivory
head, with a
very fruity
aroma that is
heady with
alcohol. Soft
mouthfeel with a
strong malty
flavor that
hints of
raspberries or
cherries.
Despite the
fruitiness, it
is surprisingly
dry with a short
finish that
lingers little.
Not as complex
as many Trappist
ales in this
category, but
very drinkable
and quite clean
tasting. 400 yen
per bottle at
Fukushindo in
Shimokitazawa.
