SAPPORO SEVEN
Low-malt Beer
Sapporo just
keeps releasing
different types
of low-malt
beer, each with
a different
sales point.
Sapporo Seven
distinguishes
itself among all
the thin low-
malt beers with
its big 7%
alcohol content,
bringing back
memories of the
9% On The Rocks
beer which
Sapporo sold for
a short time in
the 1980s. Seven
is a very clear
medium yellow
with a thick,
sudsy head.
Malty aroma with
alcohol notes
present. The
taste is heavy,
with a bold
sugary
sweetness. A
strange
medicinal sweet-
wine taste
emerges
powerfully in
mid-palate,
which lingers a
few seconds,
then vanishes,
leading to a
fairly clean
finish. Overall,
it is much like
the cheap high-
alcohol malt
liquor drinks in
the U.S. About
150 yen at Re-
Lax in Yutenji
