One of the
oldest English-
style pubs in
Western Japan,
the Pig &
Whistle is a
comfortable
gathering place
for Westerners
living in Kyoto,
though at least
half of the
customers are
Japanese. There
is a great
variety of draft
beers, including
Bass Pale Ale,
Guinness, and
the very well
crafted Edel
Pils, a hoppy
lager from
Sapporo. The pub
food is
generous,
dependable and
fairly low
priced, though
people seeking a
gourmet
experience
should go
elsewhere. The
interior is
nicely worn here
and there,
giving it a very
home-like
atmosphere.
