This is the best
beer that Asahi
currently
produces, and
thanks to their
strong
marketing, a
niche market for
dark beer has
been created in
Japan. This is
not a stout, but
rather a German-
style dunkel
beer; a dark
lager that is
not too dark,
with a deep
reddish brown
hue. Despite the
color, it is
rather light and
drinkable, yet
still has more
malt tang and
flavor than
ordinary yellow
beer. The aroma
becomes more
apparent when
the beer is
allowed to warm
a little, giving
off notes of
toffee, caramel
and a hint of
floral hop
aroma. Since it
is a lager, it
has a rather
quick, clean
finish. A
perfect
companion to the
sweeping
panoramic views
of Tokyo at the
Artist's Cafe,

from the bar for
700 yen.
